TOURISM IN FRENCH POLYNESIA

With its beautiful lagoons, its nice climate, the charm of its islands and its people, French Polynesia is the most authentic and wonderful destination of the world.
Tourism is the first industry of French Polynesia as well as the main source of employment (10% of the workforce). Besides the implementation of international category hotels and former structure renovations, special attention is directed to the extension of private lodging and over-water hotels as well as green tourism.
Consequently, French Polynesia aims to welcome 300 000 visitors a year and plans to increase its capacity to 5 000 rooms, therefore generating a revenue of 416 million USD.
Despite unfavourable economic conjuncture since the attacks of September 11th, tourism in French Polynesia remains stable, recording even more than 208 060 visitors for the year 2009. With governmental bodies regularly intervening to improve the tourism sector with its marketing and promotion policies, prospects of tourism development are really promising.
